Ella Fiskum hails from Trondheim, Norway. She studied classical ballet at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, privately under Natalia Papina in St. Petersburg, Russia, and at The John Cranko Schule in Stuttgart, Germany. After working extensively as a contemporary dancer, she founded Ella Fiskum Danz in 2000 working both as a choreographer, dancer, director and producer. In 2002 she started working with video. She has created over 17 major stage pieces, performed in US, Mexico, Russia, India, Iceland and Norway. She has made 11 short films/ documentaries where three of her films have been invited to an International Dance Film Festival in Mexico City. She is currently developing a feature film. As a dancer she has among others been a soloist at Theatre de Chatelet in Paris (2014). In 2012 Fiskum relocated with her family to a farm outside of Oslo for the purpose of starting R.E.D., an international artist residency center and production house for dance and film of which she is running. In 2015 she initiated RIFF, R.E.D. International Film Festival, and in 2016 R.E.D. Residency Company. R.E.D. a/s has been recognised as a Regional Competence Centre for Dance by Arts Council Norway since 2018. She received Vestre Toten Cultural prize for 2019.
